Lis means Fox and the first forebears of the last name were likely known for their cunningness. The Lis Surname according to legend can be traced to the year 1058 when Kazimierz I the Restorer (known for restoring Poland to its former borders) sent a knight named Lis across a river to attack enemies, and after Kazimierz gave the knight a coat of arms. We can’t be sure but it’s possible that our Lis line traces all the way back to this man.
